Our People

John Bennett

Our founder, John Bennett has spent over two decades leading and transforming in-house legal teams, most recently as GC and COO (Legal & Regulatory) at Santander UK, and previously as General Counsel at Bank of Ireland

He founded Melius because he kept seeing the same pattern: ambitious GCs with real problems, and consultants who'd never run a legal function being asked to fix them.

John was raised in Yorkshire and that no nonsense upbringing helped shape John into the problem solver he is today.

Having trained as a commercial contracts lawyer at Eversheds in Leeds in the late 1990s, John went on to hold senior leadership roles across some of the world's largest financial institutions before establishing Melius in 2023.
